While iron fences collapse in 90 km/h Aegean gales, aluminium fence systems stay upright. The question is: which model withstands which wind speed — and at which height?
Why Wind Resistance Matters
Aluminium does not block wind like a concrete wall; it works with it. With the right model and anchoring it keeps its shape even in 120 km/h storms. The biggest difference between aluminium fence models is the gap ratio and profile cross-section.
Model-Based Wind Resistance Table
Tests: 6063-T5 alloy, 1.5mm wall thickness, chemical anchor, 150 cm height, C25 concrete base.
| Fence Model | Gap Ratio | 90 km/h (Gale) | 120 km/h (Severe Gale) | Recommended Max Height | Price per m²* | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | American Model | 35% | ✅ Safe | ⚠️ Reinforced anchoring | 180 cm | 110 € | | Slatted Model | 50% | ✅ Safe | ✅ Safe | 200 cm | 113 € | | Louvered Type | 0% visual / 40% airflow | ✅ Safe | ✅ Safe | 150 cm | 107 € | | Panel Model (Solid) | 0% | ⚠️ Risk above 120 cm | ❌ Not recommended | 120 cm (windy) / 200 cm (sheltered) | 117 € |

Which Model to Choose?
1. Slatted — Wind's Friend
50% gap reduces wind pressure by 60%. Safest for coastal strips like Çeşme, Bodrum, the Bosphorus. Up to 200 cm no issue.
2. Louvered — Privacy + Airflow
0% visibility but angled louvers channel wind instead of blocking it. Ideal for pool perimeters and complex entrances. 150 cm panel width means fewer anchors, faster install.
3. American — Balanced
35% gap, both aesthetic and resistant. Safe to 90 km/h; for 120 km/h reduce anchor spacing from 150 cm to 120 cm (+8% cost).
4. Panel — For Sheltered Areas
Solid, so highest wind load. Can be 200 cm in sheltered inner gardens/courtyards. In open fields or coastal bands limit to 120 cm or mount on a concrete upstand.
Wall Thickness and Anchoring Depth
- Thickness: Cheap 1.0mm profiles flex at 80 km/h. Our 1.5–2.0mm profiles deform elastically and return, never break.
- Anchoring: 60 cm concrete footing + M12 chemical anchor in soil; 12 cm core + epoxy on concrete. In windy zones reduce spacing from 200 cm to 150 cm.
- Post section: 60×60×2mm post 0.8mm deflection at 90 km/h; 80×80×2mm 0.5mm at 120 km/h. Larger post as height increases.
Installation Errors Reduce Resistance
Even the strongest panel fails with wrong installation: no dowels, 40 cm shallow footing, no expansion gap. See aluminium fence installation process.
Conclusion
Coastal/high-wind → Slatted or Louvered, sheltered garden → Panel, balanced → American. With correct thickness and anchoring, aluminium outlasts iron by 25+ years without rust or collapse.
